The Hard Part of Waiting

The Hard Part of Waiting

Some prayers feel like they've been on repeat for years.

You know the ones. The prayers you've whispered in the dark, pleaded through tears, and lifted up with hope so many times you've lost count. The prayers for that one person who seems so far from God, so resistant to His love, so content in their distance from Him.

And you're tired. Tired of hoping. Tired of waiting. Tired of feeling like your prayers are bouncing off the ceiling.

If that's you today, you're not alone. And you're not giving up - you're just human.

The Ache of Divine Timing

Waiting is hard because love is urgent. When you love someone deeply, their eternity feels like an emergency. Every day they spend without Jesus feels like a day too long. Every conversation that doesn't mention faith feels like a missed opportunity. Every prayer that seems unanswered feels like time slipping away.

But here's what we often forget: God's timing isn't slow - it's perfect.

In 2 Peter 3:9, we're reminded that "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."

God isn't dragging His feet on your loved one's salvation. He's being patient - with them and with you.

What Happens in the Waiting

While you're waiting and wondering if your prayers matter, God is working. Not just in their life, but in yours too.

He's deepening your faith. Every time you choose to pray again despite not seeing results, your faith grows stronger.

He's teaching you His heart. The ache you feel for their salvation? That's you feeling what God feels for every lost person.

He's preparing their heart. Sometimes the soil needs to be tilled before the seed can take root. Your prayers are part of that preparation, even when you can't see it.

He's positioning people and circumstances. God is orchestrating encounters, conversations, and experiences that will eventually point them toward Him.

When Discouragement Whispers

There will be days when discouragement whispers lies: "Your prayers aren't working." "They'll never change." "God has forgotten about them."

When those whispers come, remember this: every prayer you've prayed for them is stored up before God's throne. Not one has been wasted. Not one has been forgotten.

Revelation 5:8 tells us that our prayers are like incense before God - precious, fragrant, and continually rising up to Him. Your years of faithful intercession aren't evidence of unanswered prayer; they're evidence of persistent love.

Finding Strength for the Journey

So how do we keep going when waiting gets hard?

We remember God's faithfulness in our own story. He was patient with you too. He pursued you when you were running. He waited for you when you were resistant.

We focus on our part, not the outcome. Your job is to love them, pray for them, and live the gospel before them. The saving is God's job.

We find community in the waiting. You're not the only one praying for someone who seems far from God. Let others carry you when your faith feels weak.

A Prayer for Today

God, this waiting is so hard sometimes. Help me trust Your timing even when it doesn't match my urgency. Strengthen my faith when I can't see what You're doing. Remind me that every prayer I've prayed for them matters to You. Give me patience for the journey and peace in the process. Keep working in their heart, even when I can't see it. Amen.

Keep Holding On

The waiting isn't wasted time - it's sacred time. Every prayer, every tear, every moment of hope deferred is building something beautiful that you may not see until heaven.

Don't give up. Don't stop praying. Don't let discouragement win.

Your faithful love in the waiting is part of their salvation story, even when they don't know it yet.

Sometimes the greatest act of faith is simply showing up to pray again tomorrow.
